Beverley McLachlin

Beverley Mclachlin has had a distinguished career as a lawyer and is one of Canada’s leading judicial figures. Educated at the University of Alberta, Ms. McLachlin began her career in law in 1969 in Edmonton and went on to practise and teach law in Vancouver. She served on the B.C. Supreme Court and the B.C. Court of Appeal before her appointment to the Supreme Court of Canada in 1989. On January 7, 2000, she was appointed chief justice of Canada. She is the first woman in Canada to be named to this position.
