Jack Todd

Jack Todd is an award-winning journalist and columnist with The Montreal Gazette. He was born in Nebraska and attended university on an athletic scholarship. While he was interning at The Miami Herald he received his call to the draft. After undergoing basic training in Fort Lewis, he deserted in January 1970, and made his way to Vancouver and eventually to Montreal, where he now lives. His first book The Taste of Metal: A Deserter’s Story was published in Canada and the US (published as Desertion) to great acclaim and won the Mavis Gallant prize for non-fiction as well as the Quebec Writer’s Federation First Book Award. It was also shortlisted for the Governor General’s Award, the Drainie-Taylor Biography Prize and the Pearson Writers’ Trust Award and appeared on several national bestseller lists. Sun Going Down is his first work of fiction.
