Fever Pitch
The latest offering from the wacky brothers Farrelly is a remake of the hilarious autobiography Fever Pitch by Nick Hornby (and the previously released movie of the same name starring Colin Firth). This time, it's Saturday Night Live's former golden boy Jimmy Fallon who stars as the man who can't decide whom he loves more: his girl (played by Drew Barrymore) or his team (the Boston Red Sox instead of England's Arsenal Football team). Will Drew make Jimmy choose? For details about the film, check out the official website.

The Ivy Chronicles
Michael Douglas's favourite wife is trading her Chicago dancing shoes for something a little more sensible (we hope). Catherine Zeta Jones has signed on to play the lead in the upcoming screen adaptation of Karen Quinn's novel The Ivy Chronicles. Based on the book, the movie features a former Wall Street high-flyer who, after losing her job and finding her husband in bed with the wife of her replacement, establishes a kindergarten referral service for well-heeled Manhattanites vying to get their tots into the country's choice schools. Jerry Weintraub of Ocean's 12 is set to produce and Warner Bros. will handle distribution. More details on the movie to come, but you can read more about the book right now.

The Lions of Al-Rassan
Penguin Canada is proud to announce that The Lions of Al-Rassan, by Guy Gavriel Kay, will be heading for cinematic glory. Currently being adapted for the screen, Guy Kay's novel is an historical fantasy set at the beginning of the Christian re-conquest of Moorish Spain. The story centres around a triangle formed among two warrior princes and a female doctor in the fictional locale of Al-Rassan. Kay alludes to the Crusades-era religious clashes among Jewish, Catholic, and Muslim factions, but he veils the faiths and introduces magical elements into the historical framework. Director Ed Zwick (of the Tom Cruise epic The Last Samurai) says of Guy Kay:
He has done something remarkable in imagining a very compelling world, which has some basis in history, and yet departs in a way that adds a kind of magical realism ... That is a blend I've never seen before and feels like a different way to approach an epic story.
