Cooking meals according to the Ten Years Thinner guidelines is no more arduous or time-consuming than just plain cooking meals. All the recipes in this book were chosen specifically for their simplicity and short preparation times. I hope they will provide you with inspiration for your own culinary experiments!

Tropical Spicy Shrimp

Prep time: about 15 minutes
Cooking time: about 10 minutes
Number of servings as described: about 3 full meals

Ingredients:
1 lb. raw shrimp, peeled and de-veined
2 red bell peppers, gutted and sliced
1 mango, chopped into bite-size pieces
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon anise seeds
1 clove garlic, minced
1 small onion, diced
2 tablespoons fresh grated ginger

Sauce Ingredients:
2 tablespoons Thai sweet chili sauce
1 tablespoon ketchup
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon cornstarch

  • In a small bowl, combine and mix sauce ingredients.
  • Heat extra virgin olive oil in a large skillet or wok on medium heat. Sprinkle anise seeds over oil. Crush seeds slightly into oil with a spoon; allow to warm for 1 or 2 minutes until aromatic.
  • Increase heat to medium high. Add garlic, onions, and ginger, and stir fry until slightly tender.
  • Add shrimp and stir fry until they are just turning pink.
  • Add peppers and mango and stir fry for about 1 minute, allowing to cook yet remain firm.
  • Quickly pour in sauce and heat throughout.
